Auriga

The constellation of Auriga with it's three clusters (M36, M37 & M38) clearly visible. Also the neighbouring cluster in Gemini (M35) can be seen in the top left corner.

Andromeda

A widefield shot of Andromeda featuring our closest galaxy that is at a distance of just over 2 million light years.

Milky Way through Cygnus
Cygnus

The Milky Way through Cygnus. Stunning sky conditions on 12th August allowed me to get this capture of the Milky Way from my back garden. Composite of 9 images ranging from 2 - 4 minutes each taken with the Canon 400D mounted on to the EQ3 mount for tracking

Cassiopeia
Cassiopeia

Pointed my camera to my light polluted skies, the sky in my back garden looked reasonably black to me until I saw the results of a 30 sec photo! The area around Cassiopeia. The Double Cluster can be seen as a small 'double smudge' just to the left of centre.

Cassiopeia (tweaked)
Cassiopeia

After some wizardry with paintshop pro I have removed the orange glow to show what it should look like. Can you see the distinctive W shape in the centre ? Click the image to reveal the details in full size

Southern Horizon Milky Way
Southern Horizon Milky Way

A milky way photo taken from the Quantock hills to avoid light pollution. However the skyglow from Taunton can still be seen here (over 20 miles away!). To the eye the light pollution was not very evident. Goes to show the lengths you need to go to in order to get a good Milky Way shot on the horizon.
