PLANET PHOTO'S

Webcam / stacked images

Saturn 08 Feb 2008
Saturn 2008

My first Saturn pic this year. he rings really are closing up now. This photo looks almost like an artists impression or drawing due to the lack of shadows from the rings

Mars 11 Dec 2007
Mars 2007

My first attempt at capturing Mars. Very pleased with the results considering there was a lot of air turbulance. 320 of 2000 frames stacked in registax, taken with 2x barlow lens.

Mars 11 Dec 2007
Mars 2007

My second attempt at Mars this time with the 3x barlow.

Daytime Venus
Daytime Venus

I took this daytime shot on 08th August 2007 showing just how brilliantly bright this planet venus gets at crescent phase. Taken at mid-day through the telescope. If it wasn't so dangerously close to the sun (as viewed from Earth).. you can see this planet in binoculars during the day. However I do not recommend this to anyone as you risk being blinded by the very nearby sun!

Jupiter 07 Jul 2007
Jupiter

My first shot of Jupiter in 2007. As Jupiter is visible in the summer months it lies low for the duration making it hard to capture much detail. Notice the Great Red Spot in this photo

Saturn 05 Apr 2007
Saturn 05 Apr 2007

Spring 2007 has displayed the best views of Saturn I've ever had through my scope. This is my best webcam stacked image to date. 1300 of 2200 frames stacked in registax. This time with a 3x barlow lens.

Saturn 2006
Saturn 27th Feb 2006

I am delighted with this image, conditions on 27th Feb were very good thanks to some arctic wind. During this session I could see the cloud bands on saturn even visually through my eyepiece at times. This image is taken from 60 seconds of webcam video (600 frames approx) stacked in registax

Jupiter 2006
Jupiter 2006

Jupiter taken in the summer of 2006 . I waited until later at night when it was higher in the sky. 800 frames (approx) stacked in registax. As exactly the same setup was used for both images... the Saturn picture above shows the visual size difference in the two planets (bearing in mind that Saturn is further away from Earth than Jupiter)

Non-webcam images

Saturn 11-Jan-2006
Saturn 11th Jan 2006

Saturn (a single image with no alterations), you can just see the cassini division in the rings. Taken with Canon S30 attached to telescope

Saturn Second attemptSaturn processed image

My first stacked image of Saturn. 6 Images taken using Canon S30 (Eyepiece projection) stacked using registax software. This closely resembles what Saturn looks like visually through the eyepiece.
