May Observing Report

Spent some time at AstroAdventures 2 clear nights out of 4. Had a very informative sweep of the Spring skies with the wonderful homemade half meter dobsonion. Here are the objects I viewed:

  • M65 & M66 2 Galaxies in the same Field of View
  • NGC 3628, An irregular galaxy not far from the above
  • M81 & M82 2 galaxies at very different angles
  • M51 The Whirlpool, a simply stunning galaxy, spiral arms were clearly visible
  • Comet Schwassmann-Wachmann - A clear coma and quite a nice long tail was viewed
  • M13 The Hercules Cluster, I've looked at this many times with my own scope but never seen this object with so many stars resolved... stunning!

  • I was also able to use a Meade Deep Sky Imager on my own telescope and the results speak for themselves in the new Deep Sky section of the gallery.

Straight back from the holiday and I go straight out and snap my first webcam image of Jupiter. Low in the sky but results arn't too bad. See Planets section of the gallery.
