July 2006

Summer's here! Along with those precious comfortable warm viewing nights. One of many warm clear nights already this month was on 14th. I wasted no time in taking advantage. The summer triangle is back again completing my first year since I got my scope. I had a look at the first two deep sky objects I ever saw this time last year:-

  • M13 - The Hercules Cluster, always an instant pleaser in any size scope and this time round looked even more impressive in my Tele-Vue Radian 6mm Eyepeice

  • M57 - The Ring Nebula, Not very bright and in a darn awkward part of the sky this time if year (near the Zenith) but this suspended "ring in the sky" always intrigues me and I cant help but risk breaking my neck to view it!

  • Jupiter ? - Yes it's there and very bright but sadly it's hiding behind two large trees until it sets so apart from during a camp in August, June was my month for seeing it in 2006

  • June 2006

Not really a month for any serious observing. June skies do not visually darken until at least 10:30pm when only the brightest stars are visible. Even in the early hours the sky is always in twilight as the Sun does not sink very far below the horizon. I never bore at viewing the moon so it will be my primary target this month taking advantage of those warm nights at the eyepiece. I may have a look at Jupiter some more and catch Saturn for the last time. As for deep sky objects...I can forget it for another month!
