August Observing Report

Once again a disappointing month weather wise and the night of the 12th was clouded out for the Perseid meteor watch. The night of the 11th was very clear and I enjoyed a couple hours observing on the quantocks with some friends. Only about a dozen meteors were observed, some bright but nothing to write home about (mainly down to the rising half moon). According to reports, the night of the 12th had a sharp rise in meteor rates above normal.

New moon week proved to have a few clear nights of which I took full advantage of during a camp in Slapton. The skies were simply breathtaking with hardly any light pollution in sight. It was nice to once again see a bright milky way from Southern horizon, overhead and stretching almost all the way to the North. I took 2 shots of the milky way which I am very pleased with.
