August Observing Report
Weather Woes!
A very disappointing month so far. Usually the best viewing period in the UK, but certainly not this year. Our poor island has been buffeted with a constant flow of low pressure systems this month. Not one Azores High to speak of as yet! There have been a couple clear nights between weather systems which have ended up being short-lived. I already have one failed attempt (and wasted journey) at photographing the Milky Way. Its not all doom and gloom as the weather just about gave me enough blue sky between the clouds to capture the partial solar eclipse on the 01st. As for the lunar eclipse 2 weeks later.. complete cloud cover. Here's hoping the last week of the month cheers up while the moon heasds back toward new phase.
Perseid Meteor Watch
This year the strongest annual meteor shower co-incided with a camp I was attending. The night of the 12th cleared up however I didn't have much time to do some proper viewing. 4 Meteors in all were seen. The waxing Gibbous moon did wash out a lot of the show.
